Confidence
When I was coming into adulthood in the 80s, our culture felt linear and unidimensional to me. For example, per our culture at that time, you were either confident or you were ‘not confident’, there didn’t seem to be anything in between. Since confidence was a unidimensional construct, in order for you to ‘qualify’ as being a confident person, you were often mentored toward feeling and being ‘sure’, and ‘sure’ all of the time. None of it felt right and these false constructs made it more difficult to explore and understand yourself.
Things are changing, and I feel enlivened, and I feel a sense of spaciousness, as I move into the fluidity and multidimensionality of ‘the now’, although ‘the now’ is perpetually in motion too. What is confidence? What is identity even? Those are complicated questions it turns out. I love that.
